The Science Of Healing

In our on-going commitment to provide the most advanced care possible to our patients, we recently added:

  • Information Technology services that have enabled us to be listed as one of the nation's Most Wired Hospitals for the seventh consecutive year according to a study released by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy that stimulates growth of healthy tissue, blood flow and healing for hard to heal wounds.
  • The Gatehouse, an inpatient hospice care that provides specialized care in a warm and comfortable setting for patients at end-of-life.
  • A heart program that enables us to quickly move a heart attack patient through the Emergency department and into the Cath lab where a blocked artery can be opened in as little as 49 minutes, dramatically reducing the risk of damage to the heart.
  • A stroke program that is nationally recognized for helping keep stroke mortality rates at an all-time low while allowing our stroke patients to recover and return to their community setting in greater numbers than ever before.
  • A Level II B Nursery certification for our Birthplace to care for newborns from over 32 weeks' gestation and/or weighing approximately three pounds.
  • A new non-surgical laser procedure to eliminate varicose veins.
  • A new, less invasive treatment known as Mini-maze to correct atrial fibrillation.
  • A new restaurant-style meal service for our inpatients that allows them to order what they want to eat, when they want to eat it and have the meal delivered to their bedside on colorful china.
  • Expansion and relocation of outpatient Physical Therapy at Muncy Valley Hospital.

New Partnerships For Growth And Expertise

Earlier in the year, Susquehanna Health announced a landmark partnership with the City of Williamsport to remain in the city and focus our redevelopment efforts on creating a major medical center in the city, rather than relocate to an area outside the city. Plans also call for additional renovations at Divine Providence Hospital and Muncy Valley Hospital. including:

Divine Providence Hospital

  • Relocate Community Health Center and Dental Center to the Hepburn Plaza.
  • Expand Susquehanna Cancer Center.

Muncy Valley Hospital

  • Enlarge and expand Imaging Services.
  • Modernize inpatient rooms.

In December, Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania (BCNEPA). announced a bold and visionary regional healthcare initiative, titled "Building a Healthy Future Together." The initiative commits $30 million to Susquehanna Health and will be directed specifically toward the following initiatives at The Williamsport Hospital & Medical Center:

  • Expand and remodel the Emergency department, Operating Rooms, Imaging Center and Regional Reference Laboratory.
  • Construct a new center for Physical Rehabilitation and Medicine Services with new private inpatient rooms and all related services such as a physical therapy gym.
  • Replace the inpatient suites with private suites in the Nursery and OB/GYN area. Replace all semi private rooms with private patient rooms.

Our Cancer Center, Susquehanna Cancer Center also joined in a new partnership with Penn State Cancer Institute to bring the most advanced cancer services to patients throughout north central Pennsylvania. Our patients now have expanded access to the combined clinical expertise of these two prestigious organizations.

Our Costello Center Physical Therapy and our Kathryn Candor Lundy Breast Health Center and Susquehanna Cancer Center also joined to create two special programs for cancer patients: a comprehensive rehabilitation program for women who have experienced, or who are experiencing breast cancer and a special exercise program for chemotherapy patients.
