Public invited to Susquehanna Health “Voices for Hospices Fall Festival” on October 10

Residents throughout the region are invited to join Susquehanna Health Home Care & Hospice for the Voices for Hospices Fall Festival on Saturday, October 10 from 1-4 pm at Mater Dolorosa Parish, Hepburn Street, Williamsport. This free, local event will be held in celebration of World Hospice & Palliative Care Day and Voices for Hospices 2009.

“Discovering Your Voice” is the theme for the festival, which features performances by The Gatehouse Singers, Homeschool Choir, Korean Dance Troupe, Strolling with Don Hess and Center Performers. Free entertainment, food and refreshment as well as games and activities for children will be available throughout the afternoon. The festival will conclude with a special “Go-Green” balloon launch in which balloons with notes to loved ones written on them will be released at 4 pm.

The Voices for Hospices initiative is a wave of simultaneous concert events scheduled around the world every two years on World Hospice & Palliative Care Day. These events help raise awareness and understanding of the medical, social, practical and spiritual needs of people living with life-limiting illness or of the individuals who love and care for them—such as healthcare workers, volunteers or family members. This year, thousands of people from around the world will come together to sing, dance, perform and speak out to raise awareness about hospice and palliative care.

“We, at Susquehanna Health Home Care & Hospice, are excited about celebrating World Hospice & Palliative Care Day and Voices for Hospices 2009 on October 10 with our first fall festival. We encourage members of our community to come out, celebrate with us and learn more about how hospice and palliative care transform lives throughout the world,” says Clinical Nurse Specialist Nancy Patchen.
