5/20/2009 PPL Supports Susquehanna Health LEED Certification ApplicationPPL recently presented a check for $450 to Susquehanna Health (SH) to be used towards an application for a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification. LEED is a program sponsored by the US Green Building Council to promote leadership in energy and environmental design and to recognize organizations with a LEED Certification for their commitment to being more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
“We are grateful for the support of PPL and are proud of our provider team’s efforts to be more energy efficient,” says Steven P. Johnson, SH President & CEO. This is especially true in our work to modernize Susquehanna Health’s regional medical center located at The Williamsport Hospital & Medical Center. The chief executive cites examples of SH’s efforts that include: • A new Energy Service Center outfitted with the most energy efficient multi-fuel boilers currently available. • Two diesel-powered emergency electric generators that replace eight existing generators and provides approximately 30 percent more power with 10 percent less carbon emissions. • Motion sensor lighting controls being retrofitted in areas on all three hospital campuses.
According to Donald E. Stringfellow, Regional Community Relations Director for PPL, his company felt that they wanted to provide the application fees for SH to obtain this certification. “Susquehanna Health has always been a good corporate citizen and has done everything possible to conserve energy and be environmentally friendly. Obtaining a LEED’s Certification validates this and proclaims that SH is a good steward of the environment.”
