Therapies Offered | The Willows - Alzheimer's Unit

Our Skilled Nursing Unit is proud to offer Susquehanna Health's Gibson Rehabilitation Center therapies including: on-site physical, occupational, recreational and speech therapies. Upon being admitted, staff assess a resident's needs and then outline a weekly schedule of therapies for him or her. A fully-equipped therapy room with two certified occupational therapy assistants and a certified therapeutic recreational specialist on staff, differentiate our facility from some others in the region and above all, meet the unique healthcare needs of our residents.

The Willows, part of the Skilled Nursing Unit at Muncy Valley Hospital takes special care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease. Attached to an acute care hospital, the unit opened in January 2004 and is ideally suited to care for their physical and behavioral needs. Rooms are private or semi-private and are in a separate and distinct wing from the Skilled Nursing Unit rooms. Much attention was given to the area's design with walls painted in calm, soothing colors and, through the use of full spectrum light, individuals with Alzheimer's benefit from the same effects as natural lighting.

An activities/dining room with large windows offers a view of the Muncy countryside. There is a nursing station in this same area so that the residents are always under the watch of healthcare professional. Staff members include registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nurse assistants, a dietitian who assesses each person's nutritional needs and a social worker. Two activities staff members will provide continuous activities throughout the day that help sharpen the mind. Based on their needs, residents will also be able to receive physical, occupational, speech or recreational therapies.
