Savings To The Community

Since its incorporation, Susquehanna Health has enhanced the quality of care by consolidating virtually all of its services. We have saved over $105 million by eliminating the costly duplication of those services and have returned this savings to the community in the form of free and low cost programs and services. We have also held down the cost of inpatient admissions to our hospitals at a time when many hospitals across the country have increased their costs.

A Partnership For Healthy Communities

Susquehanna Health is dedicated to its established goals of improving the overall health of people of all ages in the region. This is evidenced by our development of health promotion and education programs and our participation in the Lycoming County Health Improvement Coalition. Our stated vision is to create the healthiest community in the United States.

Community health improvement services are provided at a variety of locations throughout the area, including the System's award-winning LifeCenterT at Lycoming Mall. For everyone, there is easy access to free health education and disease prevention activities, including screenings and health fairs presented by professionals of Susquehanna Health and others from leading not-for-profit agencies who support the LifeCenter's mission for healthy living.

Furthering our efforts to link communities we recently joined in the Susquehanna Valley Rural Health Partnership to share information, technology and services that can connect patients to the most advanced healthcare available. The partnership is the first rural network in Pennsylvania created under the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Program that involves three "Critical Access Hospital." Original members include The Williamsport Hospital that serves as the major referral hospital for the Partnership and Muncy Valley Hospital, both part of Susquehanna Health System, along with Jersey Shore Hospital and the Bucktail Medical Center.

Benefits To Local Communities:

  • Improvement in patient care through an integrated electronic information system that will allow even the most rural healthcare providers in the network to access accurate medical record information instantaneously.
  • Improved access to specialty physicians via this information system and specialty outreach clinics Development of a referral network that expedites patient care.
  • Joint recruitment and retention of key medical personnel
  • Improved patient care through the development and implementation of collaborative performance improvement initiatives that will be based upon the balanced scorecard methodology.
  • Shared resources and information on compliance issues and other administrative/patient concerns among network members.

Home Care

We also meet the needs of the region by providing a comprehensive range of care in the home. The same high quality, cost effective care provided in our hospitals is available to patients through Susquehanna Home Care (SHC). SHC includes a licensed professional agency providing skilled nursing and other professional healthcare specialty programs such as behavioral health and support services to a nine-county region. In addition, SHC offers infusion therapy, homemaker companion services and hospice care.

Medical Staff

Our Medical Staff includes 210 active physicians in 50 specialties. More than 150 of these physicians make up the volunteer faculty for The Williamsport Hospital Family Practice Residency Program, the only residency program in the region. Susquehanna Physician Services, a multi-specialty physician group, employs more than 100 physicians in 40 practice locations for the System.
