Osteopathic Education
(Fully accredited AOA residency in Family Medicine)

In November 2007, The Williamsport Hospital & Medical Center's Family Medicine Residency Program was granted full accreditation with the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) for all three years of residency training. Prior to this, only the first year of the residency, or AOA internship, had AOA accreditation status. This new full accreditation means that the residency program has dual accreditation with both the AOA and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The Residency Program has partnered with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine as an Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institution. Third and fourth-year students from any osteopathic medical school are encouraged to do clerkships and apply for the family medicine residency.

Osteopathic curriculum includes:

  • OMM clinic for all three years of the program, lecture series and practical OMM teaching, interactive learning with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Osteopathic graduates of the program will be eligible to take both the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians as well as the American Board of Family Medicine (MD board) examinations.
  • Opportunity for MD residents to learn basic Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.
  • Attention 2008 Osteopathic Applicants: Please Read Carefully!

Since full accreditation with the AOA as a residency program occurred during the 2008 interview season, The Williamsport Hospital & Medical Center's Family Medicine Residency Program has two listings in ERAS, one for the internship and one for the newly accredited residency. Only the residency will be accepting applications for the 2008 academic year. Students who have already applied to the internship program do not need to reapply for the residency; simply enter the new residency match number (#58246) when submitting your rank order list to the National Matching Service. If you have not yet applied through ERAS for our osteopathic program, please apply to the residency and not the internship.
