Background

The origin of this redevelopment project is in response to a number of challenges facing Susquehanna Health. They include:

Aging current facilities

Some areas of our facilities are out of code and for some areas it is more economical to replace them then to renovate.

Patient preference and expectations

As the baby boomers grow older, Susquehanna Health realizes that their expectations for a quality customer service oriented experience will transfer into their hospital experience. To respond to their expectations we are converting all patient rooms into private rooms with the latest technology in a user friendly facility with many amenities.

Recruitment of healthcare professionals

Attractive, modern facilities are essential to recruiting the top doctors and clinical staff.

To meet these challenges, Susquehanna Health's Board of Directors dedicated months to review options, meet with various city and government officials and conduct community focus groups. The final decision was to focus the redevelopment efforts on creating a major regional medical center on the existing city campus of The Williamsport Hospital & Medical Center at 777 Rural Avenue. In addition, plans call for major enhancements to the other two campuses of Susquehanna Health.
