Our Reception and Waiting room are shared with several other clinics that are located on the Muncy Valley Hospital campus. The Emergency department reception area is immediately past the Eye Center and Health Specialties Center reception areas. While there are times when our waiting area appears to be crowded many of these people are waiting for appointments at one of these Centers.

When you arrive in the Emergency department, depending on the time of day or the busyness of the department, you are greeted and either examined by a triage nurse or taken immediately to a bed where you are examined by a healthcare provider.

During triage, you can talk privately to the nurse about your needs. The nurse will take your vital signs such as blood pressure and temperature and ask you necessary questions about your illness or Injury to determine the urgency of care required. Triage also helps our staff see that the sickest people are taken to a room to receive care ahead of those who have a less severe medical need. During triage, the nurse may also determine the need for X-rays of your injury prior to your seeing a care provider. The provider can then see you and your X-rays, eliminating delays. If your illness is not life threatening, you will be seated in the waiting area until you are registered.

All patients must be registered so we have a record of who is to be seen by the care providers. (Some insurance companies require you to call your primary provider BEFORE coming to the ED). Please inform the registration clerk if you have a work-related injury or are HMO insured.

Your nurse or doctor gives you your discharge instructions as well as information on having a follow-up appointment with a family doctor or specialist. In some instances, patients may be asked to stop at the discharge window in the department.
