Travel Medicine Services

Today, more and more people are traveling than ever before. But this travel does not come without risks. If you are planning a trip to an exotic spot on the glob or simply heading to foreign capitols, your first stop should be at the Travel Medicine Services located in the Community Health Center. We encourage your to make an appointment with our travel medicine specialist at least six weeks before your departure because some immunizations, such as Japanese encephalitis, need at least six weeks to provide immunity from the disease. Also, several immunizations cannot be given together-such as the shots for yellow fever and meningitis.

The Travel Medicine Services Program provides individuals with necessary immunizations as well as counseling and education to help ensure a safe and healthy trip. When studying, working or visiting away from home, it is important to know how to protect yourself against various health risks such as:

  • Infections diseases.
  • Tropical infestation.
  • Extreme climate conditions.
  • Adverse environmental effects.
  • Accidents and injuries.
  • Unsafe drinking water.

Your visit to our Travel Medicine Services will provide you with all your medical needs and information based on your individual medical history and specific travel itinerary. The Travel Clinic also offers individualized advice about food and drink safety, insect bite prevention, jet lag, motion sickness and diarrhea prevention. We may also prescribe preventive medicine to protect you during your journey.
