Inpatient Treatment

Our Inpatient Unit is located on the fifth floor of Divine Providence Hospital. It is a licensed 31 bed, short-term, intensive treatment program for adults 18 and older. Services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in a safe, monitored and comfortable atmosphere. Careful attention is paid to quality of care, patient satisfaction and dignity.

An individual may be admitted to the unit once he or she receives a medical evaluation by a doctor and it is determined that criteria has been met for acute psychiatric care. Patients are most commonly admitted from an Emergency Room, but may be referred by their family doctor, outpatient psychiatrist or therapist. A psychiatrist provides final approval for admission. Within the first 24 hours of admission, patients receive a psychiatric evaluation, physical examination and comprehensive nursing assessment. Further testing is provided when deemed necessary

Patients are encouraged to participate in the multidisciplinary therapeutic program, consisting of:

  • Daily assessment by a psychiatrist, including comprehensive medication monitoring as appropriate.
  • Group Psychotherapy.
  • Life Skills Groups.
  • Educational Groups that focus on topics such as Nutrition, Addiction, Wellness, Medication and Illness Management.
  • Activity Groups to promote healthy social interaction and leisure awareness.
  • Pastoral Support.
  • Individualized Nutrition and Diabetes Counseling, if indicated.
  • Neuropsychological assessment by a Clinical Psychologist, if indicated.
  • Pet Therapy.

Patients consistently express a high degree of satisfaction with the individualized therapeutic contact provided by the members of our experienced treatment team. Optimal recovery is achieved through involvement of family and community resources.
